How Much Risk Should I Take

by Pension Forecast

Maria asks…

How much risk should I take when investing in stocks, bonds or index funds?

I am 27 and make 27k a year. Should I be conservative, moderate or growth? Why? Opinions?

Pension Forecast answers:

If your goal is for retirement, then you have decades to invest and can take a fair amount of risk. How much ultimately depends on how much you are willing to accept for volatility and the roller coaster rides that happen from time to time.
If you don’t have a Roth IRA yet, by all means make one — your money grows tax free, and you can later withdraw it tax free.
Consider choosing a few moderately aggressive index funds or ETFs like Emerging Markets, small-cap, mid-cap, and Energy funds, and add some balance with the S&P500 or total stock market
fund.
Choose a company to invest through carefully. Some of the best are Vanguard, T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, and Schwab. Avoid the big banks like the plague. Don’t let them rip you off with loads (sales charges) and fees. Check how much the company charges you as an expense ratio. A good one might charge you 0.2-0.8 %. If they charge more than 1% than go somewhere else. And if they charge any kind of 12b-1 fee, hold on to your wallet and RUN.

How much sugar should I take per day to gain weight?

I need to gain weight, and I now sugar slows down metabolism, so I‘m going to add more sugar in my day. With this I‘m going to eat more and work out lightly to build muscle.
I know sugar increases the risk of diabetes, but I‘m thinner, so is there less of a risk?
How much should I take?
Anything else I should do to gain weight?

Pension Forecast answers:

No, don’t take more sugar.

You need to increase calories overall and eat fibrous foods such as whole wheat products, fruits, vegetables and proteins as well.

You should not slow down your metabolism, simply eat more while still eating healthier food.

Worst case, increase intake of natural sugar found in fruits. You can try eating nuts also, many of them are good for health and have high calories as well. Make sure that you control your fat though.

please i don’t want people telling me the risk cuz i have read all of that and i don’t want people telling me not to do it i want to know how much is the highest i can take? how much i should take? how many times can i take it in 24 hrs? dose it work better straight up or mixed with something?

Pension Forecast answers:

Your Absolutely selfish if you read the risks. And yet you want to put your unborn child health at risk. My cousin took castor oil and it got into the babies lungs & they took him to the ICU for 1 week.

EDIT: The answers below me. Your lucky nothing happened to your babies. But it doesn’t make it safe or okay.
